The Florida Panthers faced off against the Nashville Predators in the second game of the 2015 Rookie Tournament at Germain Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Panthers Prospect G Colin Stevens made his first appearance in this year’s rookie tournament making 10 saves in the first period keeping the game tied at 0.
The Preds struck first when Pontus Aberg tipped the puck in past Stevens, and continued getting shots on net managing to score two more goals from rookies Garrett Noonan and Viktor Arvidsson.
At the start of the third, F Connor Brickley continued to generate offense, notching the Panthers first goal of the game and his second tally of the tournament
“I’m just trying to keep things simple, play with high paced energy and just lead by example,” said Brickley.
Brickley, the Panthers 50th overall pick in 2010, was San Antonio’s second highest leading scorer during the 2014-15 season. He recorded 47 points (22-25-47) in 73 games played.
“It’s pretty cool. It’s great to be a leader. There’s a great group of guys in that locker room and I’m glad to be a part of it,” said Brickley.
After the game, Coach Tom Rowe discussed the importance of Brickley’s play in San Antonio last year.
“It’s what he did last year. He always came up with the big goals for us in San Antonio. It’s good to see him carry it over,” said Rowe.
Panthers Prospect D Michael Matheson scored his first goal of the tournament late in the game making the final score 5-2 Nashville.
The Panthers wrap up the 2015 Rookie Tournament on Tuesday where they meet the Tampa Bay Lightning rookies at 2 p.m at Germain Arena.
“Everything is starting to settle in and I think the third game will be our best,” said Brickley.
