The Panthers kicked off the Teacher of the Month program presented by Publix Wednesday morning by making a visit to Plantation Elementary.

There, Stanley C. Panther surprised first grade teacher Andrea Gresham as the program's first Teacher of the Month with the award for December.

Announced earlier in the week as one of three new schools and education initatives, the Teacher of the Month program presented by Publix is a five-month initiative that recognizes educators in the South Florida area for their accomplishments and impact on students. All teachers currently employed by a school (kindergarten, elementary, middle school, high school, vocational, special education) in the South Florida region are eligible to be nominated. College, graduate and student teachers are not eligible for the award.

Ms. Gresham was selected through a nominated process online by her students and peers. She received a commemorative certificate along with a set of tickets to the December 16th game against the Calgary Flames.

Gresham, who is an avid Panthers fan, was recently selected as Plantation Elementary's Teacher of The Year. She motivates her students both in and out of her class, raises funds for her class and passes on her passion for Panther hockey to her students whenever she can. Gresham's students were also treated to prizes and autographs from Stanley on his visit.
