Panthers At Seminole Casino Coconut Creek On Wednesday

by Staff Writer / Florida Panthers
The Panthers will continue to get South Florida ready for the 2007-08 hockey season Wednesday evening in their newly opened Nectar Lounge at the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek when Panthers Olli Jokinen and Cory Murphy are joined by former Cat Bill Lindsay to meet fans and sign autographs.

Jokinen, Murphy and Lindsay will be on hand beginning at 8 p.m.

Throughout the evening, prizes will be given away to fans in attendance and everyone will be able to enjoy $3 well & beer drinks from 4-7p.m. Ladies will drink for  half off after 7p.m. and music will be provided by DJ Anthony and DJ Vertigo.

Lindsay was an integral part of the 1996 Panthers team that shocked the hockey world and made it to the Stanley Cup Finals. He is most famous for scoring “The Goal”, which was the series-clinching goal in the 1996 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against the Boston Bruins.

Jokinen is returning for his third season as Captain of the Panthers. He has produced career-high goal and point totals in each of the last two seasons. Jokinen signed a four-year contract extension last season, ensuring the Cats leading scoring will be in a Panthers uniform through the 2009-10 season.

Maybe one of the best moves the Panthers made this off-season that went under the radar is the signing of Murphy. Last season, playing in the Finnish Elite League, Murphy won the MVP of the league, prompting Panthers General Manager and Head Coach Jacques Martin to sign Murphy to an NHL contract. A few weeks later, Murphy played for Team Canada in the World Championships, with Martin as the Assistant General Manager, and helped his home country win a Gold Medal.

The 2007-08 Florida Panthers season is presented by Seminole Casino Coconut Creek  -  located at 5550 NW 40th St.  in Coconut Creek.  Visit for directions and information.
