Hey Richard,

I really hope everything is well, and that you will be able to continue your great hockey career. That was a great smart quick thinking by a great smart player.

Get Well Soon!

Rami - Montreal, Quebec
Richard,
It is terrible to see any player subject to such an injury and I hope you make a full and speedy recovery. It takes someone with an ultimate amount of strength to get up from something like that and be able to find the clarity, through all that shock, to skate to the bench. It is this ultimate strength and the support from your teammates, coaches, fans, friends and most importantly, your family that assures me you will be fine.
Get Well Soon!

Brandon - Vancouver, Canada
Dear Richard,
Hi, My name is Allie, I'm 13 years old and from Buffalo. I was watching the game on Sunday like any normal day I watch the game. I'm one of those girls who pay a lot of attention to what the players are doing off to the side... like Sunday. When I saw Clarke MacArthur fall and Jockinen's skate go up and hit you in the neck, I knew the outcome wouldn't be too "peachy keen." The reaction in the arena was something I've never seen before. All I heard was SoupyMama(Brian Campbell) and Pom Pom(Jason Pominville) yelling for the trainer to go and tend to you. I've never been so scared for someone I've never met before in my entire life. There was a "loud" sigh of relief around the city of Buffalo on Sunday when we found out you were in stable condition. I hope that you keep getting better and that you will resume playing very soon. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Always,
Allie - Buffalo, New York
Richard,

I just wanted to wish you a speedy recovery. Stay strong and know that everyone watching at home (no matter what city we are watching from or which team is our favorite), your teammates, your family and friends are all praying for you. Don't rush back to the ice, hockey is just not that important in the grand scheme of life. Get well soon.

Jason - West Harrison, New York

Here's to hoping for a speedy recovery. Watching that on FSN Florida yesterday gave me chills. As a hockey player myself, I know much I love the thrill of competition, but I value my life more, and things like this make me realize just how precious life is, because it could be taken from us an in instant. Get well soon Richard!

Robert - Jupiter, Florida
Get well wishes from Massachusetts, where we're so relieved to hear you are recovering from your injury. Something like this puts hockey in perpsective. It's just a game, and it isn't as important as the people involved. May God bless you and give you a speedy recovery.

Kelly - Shrewsbury, Massachusetts
Dear Richard,

As a fan of the Washington Capitals, I just wanted to say how relieved I am knowing that you're going to be okay! My heart literally sunk to the floor when I saw the footage live last night and I realized that this unfortunate situation had happened to you. I could only stare at the TV set and pray that you were going to be okay, and finally (which seemed like an eternity) the rink announcer gave the crowd a notice that you were in stable condition and on the way to the hospital. Exactly the news I was praying to hear! Thankfully the updates got better as the night went on, and words cannot describe how happy I am to know that you're in good care and doing well.

Myself, and Capitals fan will be the first to tell you how much we miss you in Washington! Here's to hoping for a continuing bright future in Florida and a speedy recovery!!

with love from Maryland,
Rob - Bel Alton, Maryland
Richard, wife & family,
This was one of the most difficult things for anyone to see. You had many people praying for you at that very second you were injured. Buffalo has had it's share of misfortunes in our sports this past year. We thank God you had the adrenaline to skate over to the bench because every second counts. We are keeping you in our thoughts & prayers. Best wishes in a full recovery.

Collette - Buffalo, New York
G et well man, i hate to see you have this going on, you were finally getting some good playing in this season!!!

Drake - Alta Loma,
I would like to say to Richard "Get Well Soon!!!" everyone is thinking about you. And I hope that you can have a speedy recovery,so that you can get back on the ice ASAP. I was amazed at how calm you looked even with a deep cut on your throat. i wouldve never thought about skating towards the bench, But that was probably your first instinct anyways. So applaude you for that.

I have to appologize, but i am not panthers fan. But,I will definately be rooting for you when you get back on that ice.

GET WELL SOON AND HAVE A SPEEDY RECOVERY!!!

BEST WISHES,
Kevin Daigle - Moncton, Canada

I hope you make a full recovery soon, Zednik. Buffalo fan here... Although the game was of great importance to both teams, all of that was forgotten in those moments on the ice. I was terrified for you as I watched the game on TV and could not be more relieved than I am to know that you are safe.

Best wishes to you, your family, and your team as you move on.

Jael - Depew, New York
Hey,

This was severe man!.

I wish you the best of recovery, and we will see you on the ice soon. Take good care of yourself. Prayers are with you.

Chip - Arlington, Virginia
Richard , I watched the horrifying event on T.V last night . My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. I really enjoy watching you play and I hope you get well soon. Also I tip my hat to the buffalo team and their fans .The sport of hockey is a very competitive sport and there are rivals between cities. Last night as I watched the event occur ,you could have heard a pen drop in that stadium and the look on the faces of all who were there could only tell me one thing . There thoughts were with you and they hope to see your competitive face back in the game of hockey real soon .

God Bless

Victor - Houston , Canada

Hang in there buddy. It takes a great man to be able to skate off the ice after experiencing something like that. May god bless you and grant you a speedy recovery so you can get back on the ice soon. I may not be a panthers fan, but for now at least, I think we all are. And besides, once an Islander, always an Islander. Take care and get well soon!

Hey Richard.

I would like to send my thoughts to you and your family. I know that you are probibly very tired and need to get well, but i would like to take a moment and say that this incident that happened, and is extreamly shocking to watch, must inforce a rule in all hockey leagues, to wear a neck guard. Im sure you will agree with me when i say that there has been numerous occasions in the NHL where a neck guard would have prevented a serious, very easly fatal injury. I just beleive that this should open the eyes of fans and NHL personel, and maybe make a change. But enough about that, i hope you a very fast and full recovery. Now even tho i am a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, i hope you and your family all the best. I need to respect a group that beat the snot out of my team 8-0! haha get well soon! and rest easy.

Your pal.
Matt Case. - Whitby Ont. , Canada

I was watching the game when it happened and never before have I been more worried for someone in sports. I was really afraid for Richard. I'm very happy to learn that you're doing well and responding well to treatment. The game ceased to matter for me and my wife once that happened. I happened to agree with Ollie that the game should have been stopped so that the fellas could have gone to the hospital. Get well soon Richard. My wife and I are praying for you.

Scott - Plantation, Florida.

God speed in your recovery! My familys thoughts and prayers are with you and yours.

Jason - Marquette, Michigan
To Richard and the Zednik Family:

As a born and raised Montrealer and a die-hard habs fan, I've followed your career since you were traded from Washington to Montreal and registered a goal in your first game with the habs. You gave several good hard years of work to the Canadiens organization and the city of Montreal, and I can speak for many more than myself when i say that habs fans everywhere are so greatly relieved to know that this latest unfortunate incident has ended well for you, and that you are in stable condition making a good recovery.

You haven't always been the recepient of good luck throughout your playing days, as all of Montreal well remembers a certain Bruins defenceman's infamous playoff cheapshot which left you hospitalized earlier in the decade. I have total confidence that you will bounce back from this accidental injury with the same resiliency and courage you did back then.

If any positive has come out of this, it is the collective realization that when a player's life is on the line, the score of a hockey game, goals, assists, and all the rest become meaningless in the shadow of concern for that human being. It is good to see that in a sport where mutual respect has been questioned lately, the trivial aspect of the game was put aside to focus on what really matters. Thumbs down to the NHL for continuing a game nobody wanted to keep playing.

Finally, let me commend you on your stunning display of awareness to apply pressure to the laceration while skating yourself to the bench under what would be to most people unimaginable conditions. Your lack of hesitation, along with the stellar work of your trainers, the arena staff and the attending surgeons is what saved your life. Your actions should serve as an example to anyone who ever finds themselves in a similar situation.

Get well soon and take your time coming back to the ice...your team needs you but your family needs you more.

All the best,

Adriano Vissa - Montreal, Canada
Get well soon we all miss you.

Andrew - Andover, New Jersey

Doug - Toronto, Canada
I wish the best for you. I can't imagine what its like. I know i would never beable to go through something like that. Although i am a Boston Bruins fan, that doesn't matter one bit. I hope you recover and return to the ice as soon as you can.. I'm just wondering what affect this will have on the NHL and their fans. I know when i saw this happen i was just in shock, you don't ever think something like that is ever going to happen. None the less to yourself. Like i said i with the best for you and your family. And if i was you i wouldn't want to watch the re-play.. It was pretty bad.. (:

Love,
Sarah - Boston, Massachusetts
Hi Richard:

To Richard and family,

I was watching the Panthers/Sabres game on television on Sunday night when the accident occured. I thank God that everything worked out so quickly and well at the arena at the time of the injury. It was amazing to see how you were able to keep it together enough to make it to the bench on your own power!! I prayed for you at that time and continue to pray that you will have a speedy and complete recovery as quickly as possible. To your wife, please know that the hospitals in this area are truly some of the best in the country, and know that he is in great hands! Again, I am so sorry that you were injured here and will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers while you are recovering. I admire how all of you guys are able to do what you do every time you go out on the ice knowing that these sort of things can happen, although, thank goodness it's usually not as severe as what has happened to you. God bless you both and Get well soon.

Well I am a Avs fan but I am also a hockey player and I have to say it took a lot of courage for you to get up and skate to the bench like you did but thats why they say hockey players are the toughest players on earth and you are a great example of how tough we are, but I must say no hockey player is tougher than you, and we know you are going to pull through this and I just wanted to say that my wife and I are praying for you and your family and we wish you the best of luck in your recovery. Hi Richard,

I just want to wish you all the best to you in your recovery. I was shocked when I heard this news this morning on TSN. I have been a fan of yours when you were with MTL and still am, was very upset that you got traded. There are only 2 players who I consider as my idols, including yourself and Teemu Selanne.

As a goaltender, such as myself, I always was affraid of such a thing to happen to me. Ever since I saw the game, when Clink Malarchuk got cut by Steve Tuttle's blade, I always feared that "blade". But it will never stop me from playing the game I love. But when I heard what had happened to you, I was in bummed, surprise and schoked. Sorry it had to happen to you.

Get well soon, and all the best in your recovery.

From a big fan from NB, Canada

Eric - Dieppe, New Brunswick, Canada
GET WELL SOON! I work in the medical field and see a lot of injuries and can deal with them, but what i saw took my breath away when i saw your injury. I pray that you will recover and be ok very soon. Good Luck with your recovery process. Take care and God Bless you and your family! Jay Stefanski

Jay - Toledo, Ohio

Rest up and get well and when you hit the ice again, take it easy on my Canadiens!

I'm personally a Bruins fan, but seeing something like this happen to any player is a great cause for concern. Suffering an injury to such a great extent has to be one of the scariest moments anyone encounters, and your quick thinking despite the tense situation was very respectable. I hope you get better really really really really really soon. Last night I had totally forgot there was a game so I turned my tv on and the 3rd period was about to start. From what I saw you were playing a greattttttt game. And then I sat there an watched you skate off the ice. I SERIOUSLY STARTED BURSTING OUT IN TEARS. I watched the replay and I about died. I just couldn't stop crying it was horrible. I had a veryyyyyyyyyy hard time going to sleep last night all I kept thinking was if you were okay. As soon as I woke up to go to school, I JUMPED TO GET ON TO MY COMPUTER TO CHECK THE UPDATES. While I was at school in my computer class I was on the website the whole time checking for updates. IM SO GLAD YOU'RE OKAY!!!! I will continue to pray for you and your family. I'm also going to Dillards tomorrow to meet Vokoun and Anderson and I made you something, but if you don't get it I just want you to know that I'm SO happy you're okay

My son and I (he's a goalie in the PeeWee AA level and big Sabres Fan especially Ryan Miller)was watching the game when this happened and our hearts sank. As we learned many years ago the hockey community is ONE BIG FAMILY no matter what level you play. Hope for a speedy recovery.

Richard,

As a long time Buffalo Sabres fan, I remember watching the game when Clint Malarchuk suffered the same horrific injury that you sustained Sunday night in Buffalo. I remember hoping that I just witnessed a once in a lifetime freak accident. Obviously that was not the case. To see you, or any player, in that situation reminds us all how insignifcant a hockey game is in the big picture of life. Should you choose not to play hockey any more, no one in the world would hold it against you. This type of incident is enough to make anyone reconsider the path they have chosen. However, it would be Hockey's loss should you decide to leave the game. You are a very talented player and a great competitor. Keep your spirits up and I hope to see you back on the ice very soon.

I am not a religious person, but my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Frank - Buffalo, New York
Hey Zednik!!

It was an awful sight to see, but all we can hope for is a full recovery!! Glad to hear that you're stable and hope to see ya out on the ice again, playin the game you love!!

Again, get well and my thoughts are with you & your family!!

Thanks for the years with Montreal!!

JJ - Lowell, Massachusetts
My thoughts and prays are with you Richard Zednik and your family. I am first and foremost a hockey fan and have followed the Toronto Maple Leafs all my life. Richard you are hockey player of class and showmanship and a great player to boost. You just last week recorded your 2nd career hat trick against Toronto and every goal you scored was celebrated with that class and showmanship mentioned. You are a player that myself as a hockey fan enjoys to watch play and hopes that one day you play for their team. You can also notice when you play that you are a hockey warrior and that hockey is your life by the way you play. Because of this, you will return to action soon and will be stronger than ever.

Again my thoughts and prays are with you and your family during this difficult time.

Regards
Frank - Richmond Hill, Ontario

Dear Richard,

We were all upset and worried sick after the injury last night and are thankful you are doing better. The game loses its importance at a time like this. More than anything, your health and recovery is most important. Please know you will be in all our thoughts and prayers here in Buffalo. We look forward to seeing you return to Buffalo!

Tom - Buffalo, New York
Hi Richard.

You were really smart when you didn't panic after you got injured. I hope you get better soon.

Carlos, age 11

Richard,

Our best wishes for a speedy recovery. You showed great courage the night.

I was at the game you played in Ottawa last Thursday and I believe that you were selected one of the stars that night. We always enjoy watching you play. You bring great skill and skating to the game, which is the way it should be played. Hurry back so that hockey fans across the continent can enjoy your great offensive skills once again.

All the best. From two of your many fans in Canada.

Miguel Verde (Carlos' father) - Ottawa, Ontario

Richard,

The first hockey jersey I ever bought was that of the Canadiens with your name and number. I was so distraught when you got traded, but since then I've worn your number with pride for both you and the team you so greatly supported.

I was shocked to see the footage last night, but I never doubted you would make it through such trauma. You're as strong as they come and a true gift to the league, the fans, and all of your friends & family.

Get well soon and stay strong #20!

Dear Richard,

Glad to hear that you will be OK. When i first heard about the injury I was shocked. I was told that you got a skate to the neck and were bleeding pretty bad. All i could do was picture you lying on the ice in a pool of blood. Well you can imagine my surprize when i watched the replay and saw you skating to the bench trailing the blood behind you. I thought wow, now thats a hockey player, cut juggular and he still stands.I am a huge montreal fan and not so much a florida fan, but i can tell you this I will always be a Zednik fan no matter what team you play for. Get well and we'll see you on the ice soon,

Charlie Gilmore - Cleveland, Ohio

Dear Mr. Zednik,

My name is Peter Faltyn, a huge hockey fan from Buffalo, New York. Although at the beginning of the game (the ONLY Sabres game I attended this year) I and many of my fellow fans were cheering for my hometown Sabres, by the end of the game we were 19,000 strong and more cheering for you. Your unimaginable accident taught many of us yesterday night that hockey is a game: not one that's supposed to create bitterness between those who follow, but one that's supposed to create a unity of a fan base fueled by the hard work and determination of yourself and your colleagues. When it was announced that you were in stable condition, Buffalo and Florida fans alike breathed a sigh of relief. And even now, we continue to pray for your continued recovery and for one day to meet again in a good old game of hockey.

Best of luck from Buffalo,
Peter Faltyn - Buffalo, New York

I'm a Flyers fan and I'm adding my prayers and best wishes to those of everyone else. You take care of yourself and get well soon! No matter what team we fans cheer for, we're all behind you 100%.

Donna - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Richard,

You are one of the most consistent players on the team, and your speed, power, and drive to score, in my opinion, is the main reason the team has been doing so well lately. I can only hope and pray that in your absence, the boys will carry on your amazing play. I'm just a fan, but I'm sure the team will be playing the rest of this season on your behalf, because you deserve it. Please get well soon, and don't give up the dream of hoisting Lord Stanley's cup. I hope to see you back on the ice as soon as possible, and I'm sure you would give everything go get back on the pond too. Thanks, and again, get well soon!

Max Horowitz - Tallahassee, Florida

Best wishes for a speedy recovery from Rochester, NY. We thought the most important part of this game was seeing all of the Rochester Americans players playing for both our parent teams, Buffalo and Florida. How quickly that became unimportant. We wish you well Richard. You are not only a great hockey player but, more importantly, a great person as well.

Scott - Rochester, New York
I was so sorry to hear about your injury. I have always been a fan back from your days with the Capitals (both times-hah) and wish you a speedy full recovery.

Sulav - Hartford, Connecticut
Richard;
As a long time player, coach, fan, and father, I have been through and seen many things on the ice. Stitches and casts, surgeries and MRI's, missing teeth...
I have a hard time believing that I actually watched this happen, never mind the fact that it did.
I'm 41 now, a grandfather, and still play in two weekly Adult Tiered leagues. Two back surgeries, torn shoulder ligaments and old age--
Watching this has made me really think about what is important- For me, it's about the game... the guys on the squad... and how life kind of circulates around the lessons you learned as a kid on the ice. Heck, some of us truly grew up on the ice... some of us may die there.
I cannot say how glad I am that the peices fell the way that they did. I have the utmost admiration for your control over the "adrenaline rush" that happens when you know that you're hurt- just not how bad- then you realize how bad.... very scary. God bless- Good luck- Get Back!!

Greg St.Clair - Cape Coral, Florida
Richard & Jessica,

You and your families are in our prayers. We thank God that everything has turned out alright.

Hi Richard,

We were watching the Canucks/Blackhawks game when the shocking tragedy of your injury was shown. What a relief to know you are okay and you had the great presence of mind to go to the bench right away. My wife and I send you the very best of wishes and I want to thank you for coming to North America to play this wonderful game of hockey, and contributing to our hockey pleasure. Reading that you're stabilized and resting after the surgery is an answer to my prayer. I began praying as soon as I saw your injury - I was watching live on NHL Center Ice.

Continued speedy recovery to you and God Bless you, your family and the Panthers as you recover from this. Hope to see you skating in a game in Atlanta again soon.

Oh, I guess you can tell I'm a Thrashers fan, but I'm really pulling for you on this one. At times like this, we're all one family.

I love the game of hockey (Canuck fan in Vancouver) and wish you only the best for your recovery. Rest easy and get well soon. And all the best to your family.

First and foremost the prayers of our family go out to you and your family. Being a long time hockey fan and having children who watch the game with me, (Ronnie, Zack, Grace and Joy) we where at a total loss. My oldest son said how great a game hockey is and also how dangerous it is as well. We are Bills fans and had a Great scare there this past year.
When my son saw the injury he asked me if you would be ok. He looked to me for assurance. We prayed for you and will continue to keep you in our prayers.
The city of Buffalo and there fans will continue to pray and think of you. We hope you have a speedy return to

Mark - Pennsville, New Jersey
That was terrible what happened you i hope you recover realy soon and wish u and your family the best! <3

Jill - Buffalove, New York
Get well Richard, I don't know you but for about ten minutes last night it felt like I was worrying about a friend I'd known my whole life. Wishing you a speedy recovery but take as long as it takes to get back on the ice.

I know our goalie Clint Malarchuk came back and played just two weeks later but although he was physically ready I don't think he was mentally ready and it appeared to affect his play from that point on. Maybe this will help bring about equipment changes similar to the equipment goalies have now that extend coverage from the chest up to the neck area. No one would be surprised if you were one of the first to adapt your equipment to better protect the neck.

Darren - Buffalo, New York
Ouch, you're tough. Rest up, get well, then come play for the RANGERS!!

Amy - New York City, New York
Hope you have a speedy recovery and my thoughts and prayers are with you. I was a big fan of yours when you played for my Montreal Canadians and I still keep followig your career.Good luck and keep the faith to you and your family.

Bob - Mount Pearl, Newfoundland
Richard and family,
The accident that had happened in HSBC arena was beyond anything that I have ever seen in my entire life watching sports. I may be a Buffalo Sabres fan, but along with many Tennessees I didn't care who's team Richard was on, I never want to see something like that happen to anyone. I am feeling great to know that Richard is safe and making a smooth recovery. Richard, you acted like a champ out their and on top of that you're extremely smart. If you hadn't have gotten up and skated to the benches as fast as you did I really don't know what would have happened, even with the Buffalo doctors there to help. I for one was horrified. The chances of this happening are slim, and that was bad luck, but you knew how to handle the situation, and for that I greatly look up to you as a player and a person.

Best wishes to you Mr. Zednik and your family as well, looking forward to hearing more about your recovery and also to seeing you back on the ice.

Best wishes to Mr. Zednik and family,

Zachary Arlen - Erie, Pennsylvania

Dear Richard,
Although I don't follow your career, I am a Wings fan, my heart bleeds for you. You have got to be one of the most courageous Hockey players that I've ever seen. To have the presence of mind to skate to your bench is just mind boggling. I have been praying for you and your family since I heard of the incident, also for your team mate that did this to you. May you and he, both, find it in your hearts to forgive him. He will carry the scar from this on the inside, while yours is on the outside. I'll bet he's just sick over it, even while it was not his fault.
I wish you a speedy recovery, and a speedy and steady return to the game you love so much.

Tracie - Kingston, Tennessee
Richard - My thoughts are with you and I wish you a fast and easy recovery. Can't wait to see you back on the ice again!

Dear Richard & Family
I was choked when i saw you falling down on the ice and to see all of that blood comming from your neck was really frightening. I was happy to see that you made it to the bench all by yourself and that quick thinking could have saved your life. I cried of happiness when i heard that your surgery went well. You are such a great hockeyplayer and a great rolemodel for me and i hope to see you back on the ice soon as possible. My thoughts are with you and your family and i will pray for you to get well.

Good luck on your recovery. As fans we like to see our hockey tough. We forget that these young men are putting their bodies and lives on the line. I was at the game in Boston when Bergeron went down so I can imagine how Florida and Tennessee hockey fans feel. Good luck and Godspeed.

Greetings Mr. Zednik:

My heart goes out to you and your family during this difficult time. I have been a huge fan of yours since you joined the Canadiens and remember the last serious injury you sustained at the hands of Kyle McLaren in the playoffs. You have always been a joy to watch and I wish you a speedy recovery and a successful return to the ice. It was a horrific accident and I'm very thankful that you seem to be recovering although I can imagine that there may be a long road ahead both physically and emotionally. Please know that all hockey fans are pulling for you during this difficult time.

Best wishes,
