SUNRISE, FL – The Florida Panthers and its parent company Sunrise Sports & Entertainment announced today that Matthew Caldwell has been promoted to team President and CEO. Caldwell had previously served as Chief Operating Officer for SSE for two years.
“I have the utmost respect for Matt’s tenacious efforts to build a sports organization that is a winner both on and off the ice,” Panthers Chairman, Owner and Governor Vincent Viola said. “We look forward to having Matt in this leadership role.”
“I’ve enjoyed working with Matt in the last year and he has demonstrated tremendous leadership and knowledge,” Panthers Executive Chairman Peter Luukko said. “He has been a pleasure to work with as we have shaped the organization.”
Prior to joining the Panthers, Caldwell served as a Military Officer in the United States Army for five years (2002-07) in Germany with deployments to both Iraq and Kosovo. He reached the rank of Captain while serving in the military.
After serving in the U.S. Army, he worked in financial services at Goldman Sachs where he became a Vice President in their Investment Management Division. He also is a Managing Director at Virtu Management LLC and is a Board Member of Eastern Airlines.
Caldwell earned his Bachelor of Science from the United States Military Academy at West Point and his JD/MBA from Northwestern University School of Law and the Kellogg School of Management.
Rory Babich who previously held the title of President and CEO will continue with the Panthers as a Special Advisor to Ownership.
