SUNRISE, FL – The Florida Panthers and FSN Florida announced today that the season premiere of Inside the Panthers: Development Camp will debut on FSN Florida Friday, October 24 at 10:30pm, immediately following the Panthers game vs. San Jose with multiple replays during the 2008-09 NHL season.
What does it take to become a Florida Panther and play in the NHL? And once drafted, how do these athletes train to compete amongst the toughest skaters in the world? FSN Florida answers those questions and more during the show.
Host Frank Forte traveled to Caledon Village, Ontario where the team’s annual development camp for player prospects is held. This unique camp brought together 25 players in the Panthers system for a week of on-ice hockey instruction, off-ice conditioning, seminars in nutrition and sports psychology, plus team building activities such as a mini-tournament of sports other than hockey.
Fans will get an inside look and hear from Florida Panthers General Manager Jacques Martin, Director of Player Development Duane Sutter (who since has moved to a similar position with the Calgary Flames in his home province of Alberta), Strength and Conditioning Coach Andy O’Brien along with other camp instructors.
The show checks the progress of some of the young players who were selected by the Panthers in recent drafts - Keaton Ellerby
, Michael Frolik, Michael Repik, Michael Caruso
and others. A typical day-in-life at development camp will be seen through the eyes of prospect Dan Collins. FSN Florida’s cameras followed Collins around for an entire day in a segment the players dubbed, “Dan in Real Life” after the movie of the same title.
