SUNRISE, Fla. – The Florida Panthers announced today that Peter Mahovlich has been named a Special Advisor to Ownership. Mahovlich has spent the last six seasons as a professional scout with the Panthers.
“I am thrilled to expand Peter’s role,” Panthers Chairman, Owner and Governor Vincent Viola said. “Peter is highly respected within our organization and with his peers around the league. His wealth of experience and knowledge from his years as a player, coach and scout are tremendous assets for our organization.”
Mahovlich will continue to work in the Panthers scouting department in addition to his special advisor to ownership role.
The Timmins, Ont., native enjoyed a 16-year NHL career which spanned from 1965-81 and includes stints with the Detroit Red Wings, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Montreal Canadiens, with whom he won four Stanley Cup titles. For his career, Mahovlich notched 773 points (288-485-773) in 884 games and played in 88 Stanley Cup playoff games.
Following his retirement as a player, Mahovlich also served as a scout for the Edmonton Oilers, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Atlanta Thrashers. He is a member of the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame.
