Feeding Broward Together Food Drive Planned For This weekend
After the resounding success of raising $140,000 at the Ice & Dice Casino Night at the BankAtlantic Center, the Florida Panthers Foundation isn't slowing down. Over the next month the Foundation will take part in another major charity initiative –the 3rd Annual "Feeding Broward Together" food drive with the Girl Scouts of Broward County, Inc.
"After the success of the Ice & Dice Casino night it is important for the Foundation to move forward in reaching out to the South Florida community," said Vice President of Community Development Randy Moller. "We have made a vow to diversify our community programs. And with the "Feeding Broward Together" food drive we feel that we are accomplishing that goal and aiding the community in a variety of ways."
The Foundation, BankAtlantic and the Girl Scouts of Broward County, Inc. will team up for the 3rd Annual "Feeding Broward Together" food drive and will take place in the BankAtlantic Center parking lot on Saturday, March 11, from 9AM-12PM. The Girl Scouts have been collecting items for the drop-off celebration locally and will bring the items to the BankAtlantic Center this weekend. Last year about 2,000 Girl Scouts attended the event collecting 20,000 lbs. of food. This time around, they've set a noble goal of 30,000 lbs and are expecting 2,000 plus Girl Scout in attendance.
The Florida Panthers Hockey Club has also invited the Girl Scouts to attend the game later Saturday night when they play the Carolina Hurricanes. The Girl Scouts will be seated in a special section for the game.
Over the past year the Florida Panthers Foundation has donated Florida Panthers game tickets and auction items including team-signed jerseys and sticks and Zamboni rides to various South Florida charities. Recipients include: Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Broward County, American Cancer Society, JAFCO, Homestead Air Reserve, Soref JCC, Boys & Girls Club, Miami Disadvantaged Youth, Dept. of Naval Science, American Jewish Community, City of Plantation, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital, H.O.P.E., Camelot Community Center, Stellar Kids, Red Cross of Palm Beach, and the Andy Roddick Foundation.
