SUNRISE, Fla. – The Florida Panthers announced today that Florida Panthers Alumni Association has awarded new youth hockey scholarships for the Spring youth hockey travel season, supporting six local travel hockey players. The Panthers Alumni Association has donated over $300,000 to youth hockey players and programs who could not afford the ice time and equipment required to otherwise play the game.
The awardees come from travel and high school programs around the South Florida area and were granted based on academic merit, financial need and community involvement rather than their skills or talent on the ice.
“The Alumni Association believes it is important to support youth hockey in South Florida and create the next generation of community leaders whose first lessons in leadership will come at the hockey rink,” said Alumni Association President Randy Moller. “We hope that these scholarships will help grow the sport here in South Florida and impact the players’ love for the game both on and off the ice.”
The Panthers Alumni Association grants scholarships twice a year, in August and December. In August, the alumni association awarded four new youth hockey scholarships. For the December grant period, scholarships were awarded to players with the Florida Junior Panthers, the Golden Wolves and the Florida Scholastic Hockey League (FSHL).
