Florida Panthers Executive Vice President and General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has agreed to terms with C Brandon Pirri on a two-year contract.
Pirri, 23, appeared in 49 games for the Panthers and the Chicago Blackhawks during the 2013-2014 season registering 25 points (13-12-25). The 6-foot, 183-pound center was acquired by the Panthers from Chicago on March 2. In 21 games played with Florida, Pirri recorded 14 points (7-7-14) including seven points (4-3-7) in seven games (Mar. 31-Apr. 12) to close out the season.
During his career in the National Hockey League, Pirri has appeared in 56 games with Chicago (2010-2014) and Florida (2014-current) registering 27 points (13-14-27). The Toronto, Ontario native was drafted by Chicago in the second round (59th overall) in the 2009 NHL Draft.
Pirri also has appeared in 238 American Hockey League games, all with the Rockford IceHogs (2010-2014), scoring 68 goals with 132 assists. Following the 2012-2013 season, Pirri won the John B. Sollenberger Trophy as the AHL’s leading scorer, recording 75 points (22-53-75) in 76 games played. He also was named MVP of the 2014 AHL All-Star game, recording two goals and an assist.
