SUNRISE, Fla. – Sunrise Sports & Entertainment today announced that the Broward County Commission has voted in favor of funding a new center hung scoreboard (rendering attached) and master control room for the County-owned BB&T Center.
The scoreboard will be unveiled during the Florida Panthers first home game of their 20th anniversary 2013-14 season. In addition to Panthers home games, the BB&T Scoreboard will be utilized for a host of major events including an NHL Entry Draft, college basketball, championship boxing, the upcoming Jehovah’s Witness Convention, and a potential NHL All Star Game.
All of these events are expected to drive significant economic impact to Broward County including tax revenue, hotel room nights, media value, jobs, and more.
“This is a great day for Broward County, the BB&T Center and the Florida Panthers,” said SSE President Michael R. Yormark. “I would like to sincerely thank the Mayor, Vice Mayor, County Commissioners and staff for their support of this needed improvement to our arena. I would also like to thank the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association, the Broward County hoteliers, and the City of Sunrise for seeing the potential return on investment from this project.
“We believe strongly, that thanks to the support of the County, we will have one of the best scoreboards in professional sports and be able to attract major national and international events to the BB&T Center on a regular basis.”
SSE will select a vendor for this project by the end of this week.
