Starting a new job is always challenging. After introductions are made and expectations are set, the 'I'm new here' excuse quickly expires and responsibilities that rested on other shoulders are set squarely on your own. The weight can be overwhelming or inspiring, backbreaking or motivating.
But when Oil Country sets up shop on your shoulders, the weight is downright invigorating.
As the new Digital Media Content Specialist with the Oilers, my job is to keep this website fresh, interesting, and informative. I work closely with Digital Media Manager Marc Ciampa and Producer Steve Taylor, and we have an ever-growing list of exclusive features and behind-the-scenes stories that we're excited about sharing with you. We hope you're excited too.
The upcoming season will be a great one for the Oilers and for edmontonoilers.com
. My background is with the AHL's Manitoba Moose, and although I've only been in Edmonton for a few weeks, I'm blown away by this city's energy, passion, and hockey-mad mentality – even in the summer. I have a lot to learn before the home opener, and, like the other AHL call-ups on the team, I'll keep learning as the season progresses. IDEAS WANTED!
That's where you come in. As a fan, you're a vital component of the team's success and your opinion counts. You've watched the games and maybe even met some of the players, but what's missing from your Oilers experience? What would you really like to see, read about, or hear? Maybe it's a behind-the-scenes tour of Rexall place, a “day in the life” feature with your favourite player, or simply more fan-focused content that puts you and your passion in the spotlight.
One initiative we're really excited about is regular video and audio features from the road. Steve will be heading on the most of the team's road trips and will dedicate himself to digging up and dishing out tasty tidbits for Oilers TV, helping you keep on top of your Oilers when they're deep in enemy territory. Steve will also have a blog once the season starts, so be sure to check out his thoughts and experiences as he travels across the continent with the club.CONTACT US
