The Wings seemed to snap out of it in the third period. They threw 17 shots on Devan Dubnyk but they couldn't find a way to beat him and tie things up. Theo Peckham was in the corner with the puck trying to buy time yet somehow it slipped out to the Wings where Brian Rafalski tapped it behind Dubnyk at the buzzer. The puck had crossed the line with 0.3 seconds left on the clock to take it to overtime followed by a shootout.

About 12 minutes into the second period, the Oilers had their best chance of the game. Brule snatched the puck up at centre ice with Penner with him on his right. Brule fired his hard wrist shot on net and Howard just got his toe on it to make the save. Penner was there for the rebound that beat Howard but not the post. The puck bounced right back out this time onto the stick of Cogliano who bankhanded it back on net but Howard sprawled out on top of the puck for a whistle.
Before tonight's win, Dubnyk was 0-8-2 in his NHL career. That's enough for the MVP in tonights game. Dubnyk stopped 31 of 33 shots tonight and 16 of them came in the third period alone. The puck was in his glove and in his belly for most of the game giving off hardly any rebounds. This proved to be the edge for Dubnyk giving his team a chance at two points.
