Under the Scope: Oilers vs. Senators

by Kristi Hennessy / Edmonton Oilers

At the eight minute mark, Pouliot shot one over the glass and the Oilers took a delay-of-game penalty. The Sens took advantage and went up 2-1 on a Matt Cullen goal. That was not all the damage they would do. A minute and 26 seconds later, Mike Fisher found the back of the net, snapping one past Deslauriers and widening the gap 3-1. Things spiraled down from there.

With 45 seconds to go in the opening frame, the Oilers got a HUGE break on a reviewable goal. With Horcoff in the box, the Sens were desperate to get the puck across the line and were jamming away at it. Fisher fired a wrist shot on net and it was trickling across the goal line when JD slapped his glove over it at the very last second. Just enough to not have visable white on the other side of the puck. NO GOAL, great play!

Fernando Pisani was one of the most dominant players on the ice tonight for the Oilers. Pisani got things going for the Oilers just over the four minute mark of the second period. He and Johnson both managed to get a shot away on Elliott before Pisani finally snapped his home to make it 1-0 Oilers. He had three shots, three hits, a take-away and four blocked shots in his 14:36 minutes of ice time and was a +1.

The team wore the black jersey, introduced in 2008-09, 10 times this season, the last being on March 6 vs Toronto ...
The Sens were 6-3-1 when wearing their alternate jersey this year, while going 7-4-4 last season.

"They came hard at us, you can tell they are a hungry team. We weren't our best tonight. Some nights you're not going to have your legs, but on those nights you have to play smarter and we weren't able to do that tonight."
- Shawn Horcoff comments on the loss to the Ottawa Senators.
"They obviously have some great players and when they turn pucks over they're able to capitalize on it and it showed tonight."
-Sam Gagner talks about the Senators structure.
