Edmonton Oilers forward Patrick O'Sullivan has been named to Team USA’s roster for the upcoming 2009 IIHF World Championship to be held in Switzerland from April 24th to May 10th.
The 24-year-old native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina joined the Oilers on March 4th following a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes at the NHL trade deadline. He scored two goals and four assists and had six penalty minutes in 19 games as an Oiler. He finished his third NHL season with 16-27-43 in 81 games.
This will be O'Sullivan’s third trip to the IIHF World Championships with Team USA as he previously skated for his country in 2006 and 2008. He has scored 4-3-7 in 10 games at the world tournament, including 3-3-6 in seven games in 2008.
O'Sullivan was also a member of Team USA at the 2003, 2004 and 2005 IIHF World Junior Championships. He scored two goals, including the game-winning goal, in Team USA’s 4-3 win over Canada in the gold medal final in 2004.
