Oilers sign Viatcheslav Trukhno to a three-year contract

The Edmonton Oilers have signed left winger Viatcheslav Trukhno to a three-year entry level contract.

The 61", 203-pound native of Moscow, Russia was the Oilers sixth choice (4th round), 120th overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

  • Trukhno is enjoying a successful season with the Gatineau Olympiques of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) in 2006-07. In 35 games with Gatineau, the 19-year-old forward has scored 16-47-63 in 35 games and is currently in eighth place in the QMJHL scoring race and second on the Olympiques roster. He ranks fourth in the league in assists and has scored four powerplay goals and two game winning goals, while accumulating 36 penalty minutes. He is +7.

    He was named the QMJHL Offensive Player of the Month in October, 2006 when he scored 9-23-32 in 12 games.

    Now in his third season in the QMJHL, Trukhno has scored 69-149-218 with 174 penalty minutes in 159 career games. He began his junior career with the Prince Edward Island Rocket in 2004-05 and finished 19th in the QMJHL scoring race in 2005-06 when he scored 28-68-96 in 60 games.
