The Springfield Falcons, in conjunction with their National Hockey League affiliate the Edmonton Oilers, announced today that they have signed defenseman Bryan Young to a standard American Hockey League contract.
Young will return for his third season with the Falcons after spending time in Springfield in both the 2007-08 and 2008-09 campaigns. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound native of Ennismore, Ontario played in 63 games for the Falcons last year recording a career high three goals, seven assists, 10 points and 64 penalty minutes. Young’s 63 games played last year ranked second on the Falcons in appearances by a defenseman. During the 2007-08 campaign, Young led all Springfield blueliners in games played with 74.
Young will be entering his fourth professional season and in 169 career AHL contests, he has recorded three goals, 15 assists, 18 points and 134 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in 17 career NHL games, all with the Oilers, not registering a point and 10 penalty minutes. Young was originally drafted by the Oilers in the fifth round (146th overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
