On Tuesday, December 14, 2010 when the Oilers take on the Toronto Maple Leafs at Rexall Place, fans at that game will have the first opportunity to meet the newly created Oilers Cheer Team. As part of their debut performance, the Cheer Team will perform in-game, interact with fans on the concourse and help with the in-game promotions throughout the evening. In addition the Cheer Team name will be announced and their website will go live to fans across the world.
“We are very pleased to welcome these talented young women to the Oilers family,” said Allan Watt, Oilers Vice President Communications & Broadcast. “Since announcing the creation of the first-ever Canadian NHL Cheer Team, we’ve received tremendous interest from the dance, cheer and gymnastics communities across Oil Country.”
The Oilers Cheer Team consists of 19 women aged 18-29 who competed with over 100 talented dancers to earn a spot on the first ever Canadian NHL Cheer Team. In the past six weeks, the team underwent a rigorous tryout and interview process to earn a spot on the team, and then practiced multiple times per week to learn and perfect their in-game routines.
In addition to performing at Oilers home games, helping with promotions and interacting with fans, the Cheer Team will soon begin participating in charity fund raising and special events throughout Oil Country acting as ambassadors for Edmonton and your Oilers Hockey Club.
Watch for the first-ever Oilers Cheer Team calendar which will be available later this month.
Edmonton Oilers hockey is presented in part by the Rexall Family of Pharmacies, Molson Canadian, ATB Financial, Cenovus Energy and Ford.
