The Edmonton Oilers take on Minnesota for the second time this season and first time at the Xcel Energy Center. We'll be updating the action from the game as it happens. We'll also be adding photos, videos from big plays and more throughout the game.

Taylor Hall (leg) will not play tonight while Corey Potter (head) and Mark Fistric (elbow) remain out. This has forced the Oilers to retool their lines.

Tentative Line Combinations (and defence pairings) for the Oilers:

Paajarvi - Gagner - Eberle
Yakupov - Nugent-Hopkins - Hemsky
Smyth - Belanger - Jones
Eager - VandeVelde - Petrell

N.Schultz - J.Schultz
Smid - Petry
Peckham - Whitney

20:00: Tonight's game is now underway.

17:23: Minnesota gets on the board early. Jared Spurgeon takes the puck at the right point and wrists it past Dubnyk to put the Wild up by one. | MIN 1, EDM 0

14:57: Pierre-Marc Bouchard was sprung in alone on a breakaway but Dubnyk gave him nothing to shoot at so his shot went wide.

12:25: Oilers register their first shot of the night, a wrist shot from that point by Ladislav Smid that's easily handled by Backstrom and caught for a whistle.

6:45: Devan Dubnyk made a quick pad stop on a chance in-close by Zach Parise at the left side of the net.

2:26: Shots are 10 to 5 for the Wild late in the opening period.

2:02: Magnus Paajarvi banks the puck in off Backstrom to pull the Oilers into a tie. Jordan Eberle and Jeff Petry with the assists. | EDM 1, MIN 1

0:00: The final shot count for period one is 11 to 7 in favour of Minnesota.

Jeff Petry led all Oilers skaters in ice time in the opening period with 8:20. ... Ryan Suter led all Wild skaters at 8:09.
Magnus Paajarvi scored twice in 41 NHL games last year. He already has three in 16 GP this season.                                                                                                                   @EdmontonJack

20:00: Second period is now underway.

15:19: Eberle and Yakupov come close to putting the Oilers in front after a weird bounce in front of the net but Backstrom smothers it. Eberle goes to the dressing room immediately after and looked to be in some pain.

13:44: Nick Schultz takes the first penalty of the game, a boarding call to put Minnesota on the game's first power play.

12:06: Eberle is back on the bench.
Jordan Eberle has returned after his awkward fall on the Nail Yakupov chance.                                                                                                                   @Gene Principe
11:44: Oilers kill off the penalty. Eberle is back on the ice.

9:30: Edmonton goes on their first power play of the game. Matt Cullen gets sent off for tripping.

9:11: Torrey Mitchell one-times a feed from Kyle Brodziak in between the hash marks while shorthanded. The shot just narrowly misses the mark.

7:08: Minnesota kills off the penalty. Shots on goal are 23 to 7 for the Wild at this point with Edmonton yet to register a shot in the middle frame.

4:23: Dubnyk makes a huge stop on a bang-bang play that saw Devin Setoguchi backhand a shot with a quick backhand. The Oilers netminder then stretched out to stop the rebound but it narrowly missed the mark.

2:08: Oilers take a penalty for having too many men on the ice.
2 minutes left in the period and the Oilers are shorthanded after putting too many men on the ice. Still 0 shots in the 2nd period. Crazy.                                                                                                                                                                  @dantencer
0:00: The Wild got one shot on the power play but were unable to score. After 40 minutes of play, Minnesota had 18 shots for a total of 29. Edmonton had no shots for a total of 7.

This was the fifth time that the Oilers have gone without a shot in a period with the last time being November 8, 2006 against Detroit in a 3-0 loss.
Fewest shots by Oilers in one period is zero. Happened 4 times. Feb.20/91 vs. Minny, Oct.20/01 vs. Fla, Feb.16/04 and Nov.8/06 vs. Det.                                                                                                                                                                  @GenePrincipe

It was Jordan Eberle who registered the shot.

13:51: Minnesota extended its lead to 3-1 when Charlie Coyle backhanded a shot from the left circle past Dubnyk. | MIN 3, EDM 1

13:51: The Oilers call a timeout.

10:33: Shots on goal as the period approaches the midway point are 37 to 12 for the Wild.

7:04: The Oilers got back in the game on a crazy bounce with seven minutes to play in the period. The puck ricocheted off the skate of Sam Gagner behind the Minnesota net and it bounced off the back of Backstrom and in to make it a one-goal game. | MIN 3, EDM 2

6:08: Petry gets two for goaltender interference, putting Edmonton behind the eight ball.

4:51: Minnesota connects on the man advantage. The initial shot from the right point by Koivu is stopped by Dubnyk but Heatley is right at the doorstep to bang home the rebound. | MIN 4, EDM 2
