Oilers Head Coach Dallas Eakins is in no hurry to name a team captain.
This captain will be the first in the Eakins era and the Oilers new bench boss is not taking the decision lightly, nor will he work on anyone else’s timetable.
“I got that question from a very important person in our organization last week asking who and when and I simply told him that I will know when I know,” said Eakins.
“I don’t have a time frame on it. If it looks like it’s the end of next week, then we’ll do it. If it is not until November or December, then we’ll do it then. I’m not going to rush into this. I’m going to take my time.
“I’ve already talked to a number of people in the organization on what their thoughts were. In the end, I’ve got to feel this out. I’m always going to take in information. Then… my recommendation will be my recommendation.”
Eakins feels no pressure to have a captain chosen prior to the start of the season. He is willing to go deep into the 2013-14 campaign without making that decision.
“I’m surely not going to rush it and it doesn’t matter to me. I’m not going to feel any heat on not having a captain early.”
