CRAIG MacTAVISH NAMED TO TEAM CANADA COACHING STAFF

Edmonton Oilers head coach Craig MacTavish has been named to the coaching staff of Team Canada for the upcoming 2008 IIHF World Championship tournament.


MacTavish will join Pat Burns and Mike Johnston as assistant coaches to head coach Ken Hitchcock for the 2008 IIHF World Championship to be held in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Quebec City, Quebec from May 2nd to 18th.

This will be MacTavish’s third time behind the Team Canada bench on the international stage. He has won a medal in his two previous coaching appearances with Canada, winning a silver medal at the 2005 IIHF World Championships in Austria and a bronze medal at the 2004 Loto Cup.

Canada opens the 2008 IIHF World Championship on Friday, May 2nd against Slovenia at the Halifax Metro Centre.
