The rustle of candy wrappers and smell of sweet confections filled the air on November 14 as the Oilers Ladies took part in the tradition of decorating a gingerbread house for the Christmas Bureau of Edmonton’s annual campaign kick-off.
“We’re kicking off the 2011 Christmas Bureau Campaign where we invite the media and local supporters every year to come down, decorate gingerbread houses and help us launch the festive season,” said Wendy Fiske, Campaign Director for the Christmas Bureau.
The Oilers organization has a longstanding tradition of supporting the Christmas Bureau and this year is no exception with the Oilers Ladies and Oilers President of Hockey Operations Kevin Lowe acting as Honorary Co-Chairs of the 2011 campaign.
Along with Kevin Lowe and the Ladies, the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF) is teaming up with the Copper Jackets to host their annual Christmas luncheon in support of the Christmas Bureau.
While the Copper Jackets’ work spans many facets of the Oilers organization, including their signature program Reading… Give It a Shot, their main fundraising event of the year is the Copper Jackets Christmas Bureau Luncheon. Held every December, the Copper Jackets roll up their sleeves during the holiday season to help support the Christmas Bureau, who in turn provide festive meals to Edmonton’s less fortunate.
“This event has been a tremendous success. We started as a small event with 65 to 80 people and now we are hosting a luncheon with over 600 attendants,” said Bryan Ryder, President of the Copper Jackets. “Kevin Lowe and the Oilers Ladies have been supporting this charity for many years and we are proud to play a part in the Christmas Bureau’s success.”
This year’s 12th Annual Faceoff Against Hunger Luncheon Presented by Intact Insurance will be hosted by the Copper Jackets and EOCF at the Shaw Conference Centre on December 16, 2011. Participants at this year’s event will have the opportunity to indulge all the senses with everything from delicious food and carols to the highly-sought after silent, Dutch and live auctions.
Some of the unique items you can expect to see include the exclusive opportunity to enjoy a gourmet dinner and watch an away game from the Oilers Dressing Room for you and nine of your closest friends. A ticket package to the sold-out World Juniors is also up for grabs along with a package that will take you to the NHL Winter Classic to watch the Flyers take on the Rangers. In 2010, the Copper Jackets helped raise over $100,000 for the Christmas Bureau of Edmonton through ticket sales, donations and auction items.
“The Christmas Bureau of Edmonton truly encompasses the spirit of giving during the holidays and we’re proud to host the luncheon to help support the work they do in our community for Edmonton’s less fortunate,” said Natalie Minckler, EOCF Executive Director.
Tickets for the 12th Annual Faceoff Against Hunger Luncheon Presented by Intact are $100 each or $1000 per table of 10 and can be purchased at TELUS Field or by calling 780-409-5864.
