BLOG: Opportunity knocks for Arcobello

by Marc Ciampa / Edmonton Oilers

With the injury to Sam Gagner, a spot down the middle has opened up for one of the centres remaining in camp. Assuming Hall starts at centre, Will Acton, Mark Arcobello and Anton Lander are now battling it out for the final two spots.

"It's a potential opportunity," said Arcobello after practice on Sunday. "I've still got to keep working and maintain the same goals that I've had. I've just got to try and crack the lineup."

In three games so far this pre-season, Arcobello has a goal and an assist while playing with such NHL calibre linemates as Nail Yakupov and Jesse Joensuu.

"It's pretty fun," Arcobello said about playing with Yakupov. "Quick player, great skills. Whenever I get a chance to play with him I try and make the most of it."

This pre-season is Arcobello's first with the Oilers where he has seen game action. He did get into a game last season, however, and feels that has helped the process.

"It's always a goal to play in the NHL and to even just get that first game was definitely one of my goals. It helped coming into this year, giving me more confidence knowing what to expect a little bit more on the ice and in the locker room. I think it helped."
