After Sam Gagner suffered a broken jaw the Oilers went down another top centre with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins already on the shelf recovering from shoulder surgery.
With Gagner's injury, Nugent-Hopkins says it doesn't put added pressure to rush back into the lineup before he's ready.
"Obviously with Sam out it's tough for sure," said Nugent-Hopkins. "I don't think I can change anything. I've got to keep worrying about getting back 100% healthy and once I am ready, I'll for sure be going. I want to play right as soon as I can. It's tough for me to sit out, especially when something like that happens but I've just got to be patient because I know in the long run it will pay off."
When asked whether or not his timeline has changed for his return, the young centre says it's still wait-and-see.
"We're not too sure. It'll all depend on the next couple of weeks I guess and we'll see. If I'm back sooner, then it's awesome for me and I just can't wait to get back playing."
