Ida Björnstad

Director

Ida Björnstad is a Swedish journalist and writer who grew up in a very small community in northern Sweden with only 2,000 residents. She holds a university degree in media and has extensive experience working in radio and TV as a host and reporter. She has also published two books for children in Sweden, both focused on hockey.

Through her work in Sweden, keeping as many children as possible engaged in sports, Björnstad has gained considerable knowledge on the topic. She believes sport is a powerful force in society and recognizes the importance of encouraging children to participate in sports for as long as possible.

What motivated you to volunteer your time to this Board?
“I really want to contribute to a more inclusive hockey community. Sports have always meant so much to me and my family, and every child who quits is a loss, not just for the sports community, but for society as a whole.”

What makes Oil Country special?
“From the day we arrived, Edmonton quickly became home for us. Our kids found friends right away, we love the winter with plenty of skiing, and Mattias enjoys being part of an organization where we leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of trying to win.”
