Yellow Horn's short-handed goal leads Tri-City past Spokane 4-1 @NHLdotcom

KENNEWICK, Wash. - Colton Yellow Horn scored a short-handed goal and Jason Reese also scored in a two-goal first period that lifted the Tri-City Americans past the league-leading Spokane Chiefs 4-1 Saturday in the Western Hockey League.

Yellow Horn scored his team-leading 21st goal 6:31 into the first after stealing the puck from Chiefs defenceman Justin Falk. It was the Americans' first shot of the game in a period where both teams fired eight shots on goal. Reese gave Tri-City the 2-0 lead at 13:40 on a power play.

Chiefs' overage forward Judd Blackwater scored his 12th goal of the season in the second.

Adam Hughesman and Shaun Vey added insurance goals for the Americans in the third.

Spokane netminder Kevin Armstrong turned away 29 shots as the Chiefs fell to 26-6-1-2, while Tri-City's Chet Pickard made 29 saves as the Americans improved to 25-7-1-0.
