Willie Coetzee scores twice as Rebels hammer Ice 7-1 @NHL

RED DEER, Alta. - Willie Coetzee scored twice as the Red Deer Rebels hammered the Kootney Ice 7-1 in Western Hockey League action Saturday.

Alex Petrovic scored at 2:49 in the first for the Rebels, but Ice (1-1) defenceman Brayden McNabb tied it up on the power play at 15:47.

Red Deer took over from there, scoring three goals in the second and three more in the third.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, John Persson, Josh Cowen and Cass Mappin each scored singles for the Rebels, who improved to 1-1.

Darcy Kuemper made 14 saves for the win, while Todd Mathews' 43 saves couldn't help Kootney.
