ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Minnesota Wild goalie Manny Fernandez didn't practice Tuesday and has been told to stay off the ice for a couple of days to rest his sprained left knee.
Fernandez was hurt Jan. 20 and aggravated the injury Jan. 30. Since then he has played only 20 minutes - the third period of a game March 6. An MRI test Monday revealed no structural damage, the team said.
Niklas Backstrom has played well in his place, and coach Jacques Lemaire recently declared Backstrom his starter until further notice.
