WHL Roundup: A Look at Friday's games

An offensive outburst from the Vancouver Giants on Friday night moved them back into first place in the B.C. Division in the Western Hockey League.

Neil Manning and Dalton Sward scored three goals each as the Giants defeated the Victoria Royals 11-3.

Marek Tvrdon had two-goals and three assists for Vancouver (14-8-1), Brendan Gallagher added one goal and three assists, Cain Franson had a goal and two assists as Taylor Makin scored his first goal to round out the Giants' scoring.

Steven Hodges, Jamie Crooks and Logan Nelson scored for Victoria (11-11-1)

Adam Morrison made 11 saves in the win.

Keith Hamilton started in goal for the Royals but was pulled after allowing four goals on 26 shots. Jared Rathjen did no better in relief, allowing seven goals on 16 shots.

Vancouver went 5-for-7 on the power play while Victoria failed to score on fiveopportunitieswith the man advantage.

The Giants sit in first place in the WHL?s B.C. Division, though the Kamloops Blazers have three games in hand.

Elsewhere in the WHL, it was Swift Current 6, Moose Jaw 2; Brandon 6, Moose Jaw 4; Edmonton 4, Prince Albert 3; Lethbridge 4, Red Deer 3 (OT); Kelowna 3, Prince George 2; Kamloops 2, Spokane 1; Vancouver 11, Victoria 3; Portland 7, Everett 3 and Seattle 3, Tri-City 0.

At Vancouver, Sward scored the opening goal of the game for the Giants at 14:43 and Manning doubled the lead with a power-play goal at 17:02 to make it 2-0 after 20 minutes of play.

Sward added his second of the game in the second period, then Tvrdon and Manning each scored twice to make it 7-0 Vancouver only midway through the game. Before the second period was through, Makin scored to make it 8-0 heading into the third period.

Gallagher and Franson scored early in the third period to make it 10-0 before Hodges and Crooks scored back to back for the Royals, cutting the lead to 10-2.

Sward completed his hat trick at 13:44 of the third period and Nelson added one more for Victoria three minutes later to make it an 11-3 final.

At Swift Current, Sask., Graham Black and Adam Lowry both scored twice to lead the Broncos (9-11-3) over Moose Jaw (13-7-1).

At Brandon, Darian Dziurzynski had two goals and two assists to lead the Wheat Kings (15-6-2) over Medicine Hat (14-7-2).

At Edmonton, T.J. Foster led the way with two goals and an assist as the Oil Kings (12-7-3) downed Prince Albert (5-17-2).

Hurricanes 4 Rebels 3 (OT)

At Lethbridge Alta., Philip Tot scored in regulation time as well as the winner in a shootout as the Hurricanes (4-18-1) beat Red Deer (14-4-3).

Rockets 3 Cougars 2

At Prince George, B.C., Madison Bowey, Carter Rigby and Cody Chikie all scored for Kelowna (7-11-3) as they beat the Cougars (6-14-2).

Blazers 2 Chiefs 1

At Spokane, Wash., Tim Bozon???s goal a minute into the third period was the difference as Kamloops (14-6-0) beat the Chiefs (9-5-3).

Winterhawks 7 Silvertips 3

At Everett Wash., Portland (14-7-2) had six player's with multi-point games as they downed the Silvertips (5-15-3).

Thunderbirds 3 Americans 0

At Seattle, Wash., Calvin Pickard stopped 43 shots for the shutout, leading the Thunderbirds (8-11-0) past Tri-City (15-6-0).
