Wheat Kings trade team leading scorer Alessio Bertaggia to Spokane @NHL

CALGARY - The Brandon Wheat Kings dealt leading scorer Alessio Bertaggia and Calgary Flames prospect Michael Ferland on Thursday as the Western Hockey League trade deadline passed.

Bertaggia, a 19-year-old undrafted forward from Switzerland, was dealt to Spokane for forward Marek Kalus, 16-year-old prospect Rhett Gardner, a third-round pick and a fifth-round pick.

Bertaggia had 34 points (16 goals, 18 assists) in 30 games with the Wheat Kings, who are mired in last place in the Eastern Conference and are looking towards the future.

Spokane is fourth in the Western Conference.

Ferland was shipped to the Saskatoon Blades for a first-round pick in this year's draft. The 20-year-old has played just four games in the WHL so far this season. Calgary's fifth-round pick in 2010 has played professionally this year, suiting up for seven games with Abbotsford of the American Hockey League and three with Utah of the ECHL.

Ferland joins a Saskatoon team currently in fifth place in the Eastern Conference.

The Blades were busy Thursday, with three additional trades.

Saskatoon received forward Collin Valcourt from Spokane for a future first-round and a fifth-round pick. Valcourt has 13 goals and 10 assists in 41 games this season.

The Blades then sent a fourth-round pick to Kootenay for forward Erik Benoit and sent forward Adam Kambeitz to Seattle for a third-round pick.

??? Regina shipped forward Colten Mayor to Calgary for forward Carson Samoridny and a fourth-round draft pick.

??? Moose Jaw traded forward Andrew Johnson to Seattle for a fourth-round draft pick.

_ Everett sent defenceman Nick Walters and forward Taylor Sanheim to Brandon for defenceman Ayrton Nikkel and a sixth-round pick.
