SARNIA, Ont. - Matt Mahalak made 32 saves as the Plymouth Whalers edged the Sarnia Sting 3-2 Friday in Ontario Hockey League action.
Garrett Meurs broke a 2-2 tie for the Whalers (8-4-3) at 11:30 of the third period when he scored on a rebound from the slot.
Plymouth began the season losing six of its first eight games, but has since turned things around, winning five of the last six, to tie Windsor for top spot in the West Division.
Alex Aleardi and Ryan Hartman scored in the first period as the Whalers jumped out to a 2-0 lead.
The Sting (8-7-1) tied the game in the second period with goals from Justice Dundas and Nick Latta.
The loss snapped Sarnia's three-game win streak.
JP Anderson took the loss despite making 22 saves.
Both teams were 0-2 with the man advantage.
