Wahl's two goals help Spokane inch closer to the Americans with 5-2 victory

SPOKANE, Wash. - Mitch Wahl scored two goals to lead the Spokane Chiefs to their eighth straight victory as they toppled their U.S. Division rival Tri-City Americans 5-2 on Saturday night in the Western Hockey League.

With the win, Spokane narrowed the gap between them and the division-leading Americans to four points. The Chiefs have two games in hand.

Brady Calla, Jared Spurgeon and Ondrej Roman also scored for Spokane (30-14-0-3).

Brett Plouffe and Spencer Asuchak replied for Tri-City (32-14-0-3).

Dustin Tokarski made 22 saves for the Chiefs, while Americans netminder Chet Pickard was pulled after allowing four goals on 25 shots over the first two periods. Drew Owsley replaced Pickard and stopped five of six shots in the third.
