ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - Mark Visentin made 34 saves as the Niagara IceDogs captured the Eastern Conference title with an emphatic 8-1 victory over the Peterborough Petes in Ontario Hockey League action Thursday night.
Brett Ritchie and Jamie Oleksiak scored two goals apiece for the IceDogs, who improved to (45-18-3) with the victory.
Mitchell Theoret, Tom Kuhnhackl, Steven Shipley and Ryan Strome had the other Niagara goals while Andrew Agozzino, Dougie Hamilton and Jesse Graham each had three assists apiece.
Stephen Nosad was the lone Pete to solve Visentin, who picked up his 30th win of the season.
Mike Morrison made 34 stops in the loss.
The IceDogs, who entered the game with the league's top power play, went 3-for-4 with the man-advantage. Peterborough was 0-for-4.
In four games this season Niagara has outscored Peterborough 23-10, including 17-1 in the past two games.
