by NHL.com Staff

Semyon Varlamov will be in goal for Russia on Wednesday when it faces Finland (7:30 a.m. ET, NBCSN, CBC) in a quarterfinal game at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, a team spokesman said.

The Colorado Avalanche goaltender has won each of his starts in Sochi. He made 12 saves in a 5-2 victory against Slovenia in Russia's opener, then stopped all 27 shots he faced in regulation and overtime in a 1-0 shootout win against Slovakia in their Group A finale Sunday. Varlamov also stopped Slovakia's two attempts in the tiebreaker.

Sergei Bobrovsky started for Russia on Tuesday against Norway in a qualification-round game, which the Olympic hosts won 4-0 to advance to the quarterfinals. The Columbus Blue Jackets goalie and reigning Vezina Trophy winner was in goal when Russia lost 3-2 in a shootout to the United States on Saturday.
