Ulmer scores twice as Spokane Chiefs prevail over Kootenay Ice 6-4 @NHL

CRANBROOK, B.C. - Strefan Ulmer scored twice and added an assist as the Spokane Chiefs won a see-saw battle with the Kootenay Ice 6-4 in Western Hockey League action Friday night.

Anthony Bardaro, Kyle Beach and Brady Brassart also scored for Spokane (37-20-4), while Levko Koper added an empty-net goal.

Matt Fraser, Brayden McNabb, Dustin Sylvester and Max Reinhart supplied the offence for Kootenay (37-19-5).

James Reid stopped 24 of 29 shots for the win while Todd Mathews turned aside 20 of 25 shots to take the loss.

The Chiefs jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first period, scoring on three of their first five shots on goals by Bardaro, Ulmer and Beach - with his league-leading 46th - while Fraser answered for the Ice.

Kootenay scored three goals in the second period, a short-handed marker by Sylvester and two more by Reinhart and McNabb to take a 4-3 lead before Ulmer got his seventh of the season to tie it late in the period. Brassart scored the game-winner 3:36 into the third and Koper added a goal at the buzzer.
