Tyson Barrie's shootout marker lifts Rockets over Oil Kings, 3-2

KELOWNA, B.C. - Tyson Barrie scored the game-winning goal in the shootout for Kelowna as the Rockets defeated the expansion Edmonton Oil Kings 3-2 in WHL action on Saturday night.

Cody Almond, with his 20th goal of the season, and Colin Long, with his 25th goal and WHL-leading 88th point, also scored for Kelowna (33-18-2-6), which led 1-0 and 2-1 at the period breaks.

Almond opened the scoring at 7:19 of the first period and, after Edmonton tied the game with a 5-on-3 power-play goal at 1:56 of the second, Long made it 2-1 at 17:05 with Kelowna on a two-man advantage.

Brenden Dowd, with his 13th, and Brennan Sonne, with his sixth at 14:06 of the third, replied for Edmonton (19-29-4-6), which is 1-0-0-1 of a five-game B.C. road trip.

On Friday, the Oil Kings crowned the Blazers 4-0. Edmonton, which will call Kelowna home until Monday, visits the Chilliwack Chiefs (25-25-3-4) on Tuesday.

Kris Westblom made 26 saves for the Rockets, who visit the Spokane Chiefs (39-13-1-5) on Tuesday.

Alex Archibald, who had a stellar effort between the pipes, turned aside 28 shots for the Oil Kings.
