Ryan Kavanagh and Hubert Labrie were both playoff overtime heroes on Tuesday, leading their teams to the second round of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoffs.
Kavanagh scored his second of the game 10 minutes into overtime to give the Rimouski Oceanic a 3-2 win over the Chicoutimi Sagueneens in Game 7 of their QMJHL first-round series.
Labrie's second goal gave the Olympiques a Game 7 victory two minutes into double overtime as Gatineau edged the Montreal Junior 2-1.
At Rimouski, Que., Kavanagh also assisted on Jakub Culek's first-period power play goal, tying him for the playoff scoring lead among defencemen with 10 points. His six goals lead all defencemen.
Kavanagh scored midway through the second to put the Oceanic up 2-1, but Alexandre Roy tied the game late in the period.
Mattew Dopud made 33 saves for Rimouski, which narrowly avoided defeat after taking a 3-1 series lead and will move on to face the Drummondville Voltigeurs in the quarter-finals.
Marc-Andre Levasseur also scored for the Sagueneens, while Christopher Gibson stopped 30 shots.
At Montreal, Labrie opened the scoring early in the second period, but Trevor Parkes evened the score on a power play 10 minutes later.
Maxime Clermont kept the Olympiques in the game, stopping 13 shots in the third period and seven in the first overtime. He finished with 36 saves.
Jean-Francois Berube stopped 33 shots for the Junior.
Gatineau, which rallied from a 3-1 series deficit, will take on the Saint John Sea Dogs in the quarter-finals.
