BRAMPTON, Ont. - Jack Combs had a goal and an assist to help the Saginaw Spirit edge the Brampton Battalion 2-1 in Ontario Hockey League action Sunday afternoon.

Kyle Decoste drew first blood for the home side on the power play at 17:42 of the first period, converting a cross-crease pass from Matt Duchene.

Saginaw (14-14-3-1) drew even at 5:53 of the middle stanza when Combs slipped the puck past Bryan Pitton. The winning goal came at the 14:55 mark of the second period when Tomas Zaborsky took a pass from Combs and found the net.

At 13:59 of the third period, Thomas Stajan was hooked on a breakaway attempt and was awarded a penalty shot but he was unsuccessful as he fanned on his shot.

Brampton (20-11-1-2) thought they had the game tied with 3.8 seconds remaining during a goal-mouth scramble but the referee had blown the whistle dead.
