Tangradi continues hot streak with two points as Belleville beats Kitchener @NHLdotcom

Look out John Tavares - Eric Tangradi is making a run for the Ontario Hockey League scoring title.

Tangradi scored his 37th goal of the season and added an assist as the Belleville Bulls held off the Kitchener Rangers 5-3 on Saturday night.

Tangradi, an Anaheim Ducks draft pick, has 83 points in 50 games this season, four less than Tavares' 87 (47 goals, 40 assists). The Philadelphia native is on a four-game multi-point streak, tallying six goals and five assists in that stretch. He had 10 goals and 10 assists through nine games in January, recording at least a point in eight of nine games.

On Saturday, Tangradi opened the scoring on a power play midway through the first period. Jeff Skinner evened things up shortly after, but Cody Alcock gave Belleville (40-15-2-2) the lead again before the end of the first.

Kitchener outshot the Bulls 19-10 in the second period, but Belleville stretched its lead to 4-1 before Julian Cimadamore scored a late power-play goal to give the Rangers a chance heading into the third.

Elsewhere in the OHL, it was: Erie 7, Plymouth 4; Oshawa 5, Peterborough 4 (OT); Owen Sound 6, Brampton 3; Saginaw 4, Guelph 3 (OT); and Sudbury 4, Barrie 2.

At Belleville, Ont., Brandon Mashinter and Cory Tanaka also had a goal and an assist each for the Bulls, who won their fifth straight game. Luke Judson also scored.

Tyler Randell had the other goal for Kitchener (23-30-3-2).

Mike Murphy made 32 saves for Belleville, while Rangers netminder Parker Van Buskirk stopped 36 shots.

Otters 7, Whalers 4

At Plymouth, Mich., Brandon Biggers and Zack Torquato each had four-point games as Erie trampled the Whalers.

Biggers recorded three goals and an assist for the Otters (30-26-2-1), while Torquato tallied a goal and three helpers. Sean Jones, Mike Cazzola and Ryan O'Reilly scored the other Erie goals.

For Plymouth (30-23-5-0), Tyler Seguin posted a goal and an assist and AJ Jenks, RJ Mahalak and Michal Jordan also scored. Matt Caria chipped in two assists.


Generals 5, Petes 4 (OT)

At Peterborough, Ont., Tony DeHart's power-play goal in overtime lifted Oshawa over the Petes.

Brett Parnahm and Calvin de Haan had a goal and assist each for the Generals (24-28-2-4). Jeff Brown and Andy Andreoff also scored.

Sergey Korostin led Peterborough (24-32-1-2) with two goals while Zack Kassian had a goal and two assists and Tony Romano chipped in a goal and an assist.


Attack 6, Battalion 3

At Owen Sound, Ont., Joey Hishon scored three goals and Tyler Beskorowany made 55 saves as the Attack stunned Brampton.

Hishon also chipped in an assist, while Mike Lomas scored twice and Andrew Wilkins added a goal and an assist for Owen Sound (22-23-7-7).

Thomas Stajan, Sam Carrick and Josh Day replied for the Battalion (39-17-1-1).


Spirit 4, Storm 3 (OT)

At Saginaw, Mich., Jack Combs scored 42 seconds into overtime as the Spirit edged Guelph.

Combs had two goals and an assist for Saginaw (32-20-2-4), while Chris Chappell scored twice. Joe Underwood, T. J. Brodie and Nick Crawford each added two helpers.

Cody McNaughton, Tim Priamo and Nathan Martine scored for the Storm (30-21-4-3).


Wolves 4, Colts 2

At Sudbury, Ont., Jared Staal scored the winning goal with less than six minutes remaining in the third period as the Wolves defeated Barrie.

Akim Aliu had a goal and an assist, while John McFarland and Eric O'Dell also scored for Sudbury (24-30-2-4).

Darren Archibald and Kyle Clifford had a goal and an assist each for the Colts (27-28-3-1).
