SPOKANE, Wash. - Seattle Thunderbirds coach Rob Sumner couldn't bear to watch his team get eliminated from the playoffs.
Sumner was ejected from the game after Mitch Wahl scored the winner for Spokane with less than six minutes remaining in the third period as the Chiefs knocked Seattle out of the Western Hockey League playoffs with a 5-3 victory on Saturday night.
Wahl's winner came on the power play after the Thunderbirds' bench was called for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Thomas Hickey scored for Seattle in the final two minutes to make it a one-goal game, but Drayson Bowman found the empty net for his second of the game shortly after to ice the series in five games.
Wahl also had a pair of assists, while Brady Calla and Justin McCrae added goals for Spokane, which will face the first-place Vancouver Giants in the second round.
Prab Rai and Colin Jacobs also scored for the Thunderbirds.
Dustin Tokarski made 31 saves for the Chiefs, while Seattle netminder Calvin Pickard stopped 30 shots.
