Stamkos nets shootout winner to lead Sarnia to 4-3 win over Plymouth @NHLdotcom

SARNIA, Ont. - Steven Stamkos scored twice in regulation and added the shootout winner as the Sarnia Sting downed the Plymouth Whalers 4-3 on Sunday night in the Ontario Hockey League.

Stamkos, one of the top prospects ahead of the 2008 NHL draft, had a first-period shorthanded goal and added his 28th of the season on a second-period power play. Stamkos and Justin DiBenedetto had the shootout goals for the Sting (18-12-0-0) while Chris Terry replied for the Whalers (16-8-1-2).

Steve Whitely's goal midway through the third period sent the game to overtime for Sarnia.

Joe McCann scored on a first-period penalty shot while Vern Cooper and Michal Jordan added singles for Plymouth.

Sting netminder Tomi Karhunen made 20 saves in the victory, while Plymouth goalie Jeremy Smith stopped 35 shots in defeat.
