St. Louis Blues 3, Edmonton Oilers 5 FINAL @NHLdotcom

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) _ Ryan Smyth broke out of a goal drought at the St. Louis Blues' expense.

Smyth scored twice to help the Edmonton Oilers beat St. Louis 5-3 on Wednesday night, extending the Blues' winless streak to eight games.

``That was one of my better ones, no question,'' said Smyth, who hadn't scored since Jan. 17 _ an eight-game stretch. ``Obviously, everything's been magnified in the last month. So it's nice to chalk up a win and a couple of goals.

Radek Dvorak had a goal and an assist and Ethan Moreau also scored in Edmonton's four-goal second period.

Smyth added a goal in the third to clinch the Oilers' third victory in their last four games.

``He's a real character guy, a real passionate guy,'' teammate Steve Staios said. ``It's good to see him come through. Sometimes you get into a situation where you can't put the puck in the back of the net. But it's certainly not for lack of effort from him.''

Chris Pronger, Jamal Mayers and Keith Tkachuk scored for the struggling Blues, who've lost a season-high four straight and are 0-7-1-0 in their last eight.

``There was hard work by both teams some good chances, some good hockey but we're finding ways to give them away,'' said former Oilers captain Doug Weight, who had a pair of assists for St. Louis. ``No excuses. We've got to find a way to win.''
