Spirit snap seven-game losing streak with a 6-4 win over Niagara IceDogs

SAGINAW, Mich. - John McFarland scored twice and the Saginaw Spirit snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 6-4 win over the Niagara IceDogs in Ontario Hockey League action Saturday.

Brandon Saad had a goal and an assist while Brandon Archibald, Vincent Trocheck and Jamie Oleksiak, with an empty net goal, also scored for Saginaw (2-8-0).

Jake Paterson relieved Tadeas Galansky after one period and stopped 22 of 23 shots to aid in the victory.

Dougie Hamilton scored twice and added an assist and Ryan Strome and David Pacan contributed one goal each for Niagara (3-6-1). Mark Visentin stopped 26 shots in a losing effort.

Saginaw scored three goals before the five minute mark of the game only to see Niagara score three of their own as the first period ended with both teams tied at three.

McFarland's second goal at 3:32 of the second period proved to be the winner.

Niagara out shot Saginaw 34-32.
