KITCHENER, Ont. - Nick Spaling scored twice and added an assist as the Kitchener Rangers rode a four-goal first period to a 6-4 triumph over the Owen Sound Attack on Friday night in the Ontario Hockey League.
Spaling's first goal 6:12 into the game tied the score 1-1, and his second just over six minutes later gave the Rangers the lead for good at 3-2. Phil Varone added a goal and three assists as the Rangers (7-2-0-0) won their second straight.
Spencer Anderson, Yannick Weber and Mikkel Boedker added singles while Josh Unice earned the win in goal.
Scott Tregunna, Lane MacDermid, Joey Hishon and Matt Carter replied for the Attack (1-9-1-0), who have lost eight in a row. The Attack lost both games of their home-and-home series with the Rangers, dropping a 5-4 overtime decision in Owen Sound last Sunday.
David Davenport stopped 38 shots for the Attack.
