Spaling scores twice as Rangers complete 4-game sweep of Whalers @NHLdotcom

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Nick Spaling had a goal and two assists Wednesday as the Kitchener Rangers downed the Plymouth Whalers 7-4 and swept their first-round Ontario Hockey League Western Conference quarter-final series.

Mikkel Boedker had a goal and an assist for the Rangers, while Justin Azevedo chipped in four assists. Scott Timmins, Ben Shutron, Mike Duco and Scott Tregunna all had singles, while Matt Halischuk scored his second penalty shot goal of the series.

Josh Unice, starting in place of Steve Mason (flu), turned aside 32 shots earning the win.

Plymouth got a goal and an assist from overage captain Andrew Fournier, with Jordon O'Neill, Tyler J. Brown and Patrick Lee each scoring once. Jeremy Smith finished with 48 saves in a losing cause.
