Only a couple notes graced the ol’ mailbag this week.
Hello there, Phil.
So, after reading the previous mailbag, and after reading some discussion on a message board I frequent, I've got a waivers question. Say Teemu Selanne was signed by the Ducks, is he subject to re-entry waivers? Are there any limitations on his signing, too? I seem to remember the current CBA having a provision about players needing to be signed by a certain date.

Hey Matt. I checked with NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly on this one and he said as long as Selanne hasn’t played in Europe, which by all accounts he hasn’t, then he would be free to sign with the Ducks at any point this season, provided the team had the salary-cap space.
Hello Mr. Coffey,
I very happy that I found Ice Age and that I can associate with you. It’s all very interesting and positive. Sure my English is not good, but I will try to make it better. I took profit books from book shelf: 300 Verbs, verbs in different times and etc. It helps me, but writing is still difficult. It’s impossible to translate some transformation of verbs on Russian language. Russian language have only 3 times: past, present and future.
Well, now I will be closer to hockey. Mr. Coffey, I not happy that the Penguins lost Mark Recchi. I am very sympathetic to him. On the “NHL on the Fly” TV program, I have seen a lot of moments of Recchi battling in the slot and always is moving fast and emphatically. Mr. Coffey do you know why Penguins not hold on to Recchi? I read that he moved to Atlanta. Who from Atlanta will come to Pittsburgh? I hope that Penguins will not lose some more players. Penguins need stability in roster. I was not happy in pre-eason when Michel Ouellet moved to Tampa Bay.
I read a couple weeks ago an interesting note on Ice Age about players’ interests, and tell my dad that many NHL players like to listen to Metallica. Dad ask me: “It’s very interesting. Mr. Coffey don’t write who of players listening AC/DC?” We thought that it is: C. Pronger, J. Thornton and C. Simon. How close we are?
Thank you very much Mr.Coffey!
-- Richard, NHL hockey fan from cold and far Russia.
P.S. If you will see Mario Lemieux, please tell him that I and my dad will never forget him and his play.
Hi Richard. Thanks for writing in again.
Mark Recchi was picked up by the Thrashers on re-entry waivers, so Atlanta will not send a player to Pittsburgh. As you may have seen on NHL.com, Recchi scored two goals in his first game for Atlanta on Wednesday night.
I’m going to pass your music question on to Shawn Roarke and Crashing The Net. Shawn is our resident musical “expert” and would know more about the players’ musical tastes than I would.
