Canadiens 3, Capitals 2
It's odd to give this to a goalie, who really takes one game-long shift, but Jose Theodore
saved the Capitals big-time midway through the second period when the game was still tied 1-1. He made three point-blank stops, two on Tomas Plekanec
and one on Benoit Pouliot
, within a span of six seconds before covering the puck with 9:02 remaining in the period. It was a huge sequence by a goalie who has dealt with a lot of naysayers throughout the season.
Sabres 2, Bruins 1
The game was scoreless when Derek Roy
picked up a puck in his own end, started up the right wing, stepped around Bruins defenseman Matt Hunwick
in the neutral zone, crossed the blue line and dropped a pass to Thomas Vanek
, who was behind him and to his left. Vanek rifled a shot from the right circle past Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask
's right side for the first goal of the game at 4:52 of the first period.
Canucks 3, Canucks 2
's power-play goal midway through the second period tied the score at 2-2, but it wouldn't have been possible without the work of Kings captain Dustin Brown
. The Canucks had multiple chances to clear the zone, but Brown fought to keep the puck in, then worked his way down the boards with the puck before dishing it off to Alexander Frolov
. He slid the puck to Modin, who ripped it past Roberto Luongo
from the slot to even the score. Without Brown's work along the boards near the top of the zone, Modin doesn't score. Brown definitely earned his secondary assist on the goal.
