Sharks confirm McLellan will return as coach @NHLdotcom

Todd McLellan will be back for his fifth season as coach of the San Jose Sharks.

General manager Doug Wilson has officially announced Monday that McLellan will be behind the bench for the 2012-13 season. Wilson had said McLellan and his coaching staff were still being evaluated shortly after the Sharks lost to St. Louis in five games in their first-round playoff series.

The Sharks finished second in the Pacific Division and seventh in the West this past season after winning the division under McLellan in each of the previous three seasons and advancing to the conference finals in 2010 and 2011. San Jose?s 96 points represented the franchise?s worst season since 2002-03, when the Sharks had just 73 points and missed the playoffs.

Wilson said the major change he wanted from the team was going from one that was "passive and reactive" to one that would be "aggressive and proactive" next season.

McLellan said he may make some changes to his staff and has a list of potential assistants he wanted to talk to.
