Severson has five assists as Rockets snap losing skid with 6-3 win over Giants

KELOWNA, B.C. - Damon Severson had five assists as Kelowna Rockets snapped their six-game losing skid with a 6-3 victory Thursday night over the Vancouver Giants in the WHL action.

Myles Bell, Zach Franko, and Austin Ferguson each scored in the first period to chase Adam Morrison after he gave up the three goals on seven shots. He was replaced by Jackson Whistle.

Matt Bellerive got the Giants on the board, tipping home a Wes Vannieuwenhuizen point shot to get Vancouver within two.

Brendan Gallagher added a power-play goal with 1:29 left in the period to get the Giants back in the game. They trailed 3-2 through 20 minutes.

Colton Sissons and Spencer Main beat Whistle to put the home side up 5-2 through 40 minutes.

Blake Orban's was ejected late in the period after receiving a five minute major for interference and a game misconduct for a hit on Carter Rigby, who did not return to the game.

Shane McColgan scored on the power play 26 seconds into the third period to extend the lead to 6-2, then Bellerive scored his second of the game to make it a 6-3 final.

The Giants (4-6-1) finished 2-for-7 on the power play, while the Rockets (4-5-1) were 2-for-9.

Whistle stopped 24 of the 27 shots he faced in relief.
