Schmitz scores twice to lead the Whalers past the Rangers 4-3

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - The Plymouth Whalers scored two power-play goals five seconds apart in the final two minutes of the third period to come back and beat the Kitchener Rangers, 4-3, in Ontario Hockey League action on Saturday night.

Stefan Noesen tied the game at 18:00 and then Rickard Rakell scored five seconds later as the West Division-leading Whalers (16-6-3) held on for the final 1:55 to win their seventh straight game.

Beau Schmitz scored the other two goals for Plymouth.

Tobias Rieder, Ben Thomson and Michael Catenacci scored for the Rangers (14-7-1).

Scott Wedgewood made 29 saves for the win while John Gibson turned aside 46 shots in the loss.

The Whalers went 2-for-6 on the power play as Kitchener scored once on five opportunities with the man advantage.
